Default Re: Alternator Removal

Looking on Ebay-- has anyone tried these

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...&category=43989

They look like a more cheap alternative to running rich and with a CEL especially for exhaust work? If anyone has tried it, does it do as its supposed to and reset the CEL every time?

OBDII (On Board Diagnostics generatio II) is a system used in post-1996 cars (With 3-4 different protocols, depending on the maker), to check engine sensors, so you can get codes that told you what is failing!
Depending on the evolution of your ECU the CEL (Check Engine Light) will go on, and store a fault code in memory. These devices (The OBDII tool) will be able to read it, and many times, you can erase it.

There are a lot of systems availiable to check OBDII system with your laptop, pda... They maybe expensive, but the electronics are easy to get from the radio shack, neither the soft.

These tools wont avoid your CEL to go on! You need an OBDII probe tricker! I've seen them for GM cars. So you connect them to the 2nd oxigen sensor, and it makes the ECU think that the system is all ok.

Think that OBDII system was born mainly to get a better control of the emissions! So it will claim for the 2nd oxigen sensor to work! ;-)
