Default normal or synthetic oil

Hi i am about to hit 10k miles and wanted to switch over to synthetic oil. Is there any problems associated with synthetic oil such as cold weather, hyundai's run better on normal, etc...

Thanks
JD

dunno about general public, but i'm running synthetic and I love it. I'm using castrol synthetic 5-50, mabye a little overkill, but allows you to run your engine harder with less damage to the engine that if you used regular. The only problem is cost.

also forgot to mention, that i used synthetic-blend between regular oil(from dealer) and castrol synthetic. It might make for a a easier transition. Well thats just my opinion.

....But anyway keep in mind that once you switch to synthetic you can never go back to regular oil. Cold weather only affects oil weight. Like 5-50 you would not want to run that in the winter time. The max I would go is 10-30 in the winter and 10-40 in the summer.
this is not true, why couldnt you go back and forth?you could mix them together(2qts reg, 2qts syn)hence syn blend. also you can use the 10w30 year round

I switched to Mobil One at 10k miles, and have had 0 problems. I like it.

Generally a engine w/ 10k miles on it doesn't need synthetic. I recommend synthetic with an engine that has over 60k as it would prolong the life and reduce wear. The reason you wouldn't want to use synthetic in a young engine is that the components need to break in with each other and they seat themselves over time. I believe synthetic hinders this somewhat so that i'm told.

I was told that you can use either and interchange anytime that you like. The newer syns are made to be idiot proof in that way. I guess in Europe its unheard of to use any type of conventional. The sooner the switch the better. Try a 5w-30 in the winter and a 10w-30 in the summer. Mobil 1 or Casterol are great.

OK.... There's a lot of confusion about synthetic v/s regular oil. I read from a tech. article that you can not mix synth. & regular oil in the engine at a particular time. And unlike what someone said you can always go back to using regular oil after using synthetic oil. Just don't mix them together, they have different properties. When I had my rebuilt engine installed I first put in regular oil to break in the engine and thereafter I have used synthetic oil. My engine has close to 15,000 miles and runs excellent. Mobil 1 is my choice.
