Muffler for 2003 I4 Tiburon...
Alright, I've been wanting to know this for months and no one can tell me. I've wanted to get a muffler that I can tune and get the Ricer sound. I was looking at a catback system which run from 600 to 900 bucks, I was told that I could just buy the Muffler that makes the noise and put it on my car, but I guess that means I would have to cut the stock one off, then cut the pipe to fit the new Muffler. I was looking at some on Andysautosport.com ( http://andysautosport.com/products.php?id=...t&scat=Mufflers) for the exact link to equasts ect,..) I want to get the sound but I dont want to buy a whole system, since the car is a dual muffler what do I do ? I wanted to have the Muffler /w silener on the right side of the car, what do I do wit the left side, cut it off and plug the hole ? lol sorry im a n00b to all these things - any help will be appriated
PS: I had a little accident with the car about 4 months ago, my hood is all dented up and my bumper is messed up - I was looking itno getting a c/b hood and just taking the bumper off, sanding it down primeing it and painting it silver again. But my main goal is to understand the different between catback and just a normal muffler, is it even the muffler tip that makes the noise ?

8O :?
Uhm, I'm not making fun, but are you serious?
1. This site is dedicated to RD Tiburons, hence the name. RD = 1997 thru 2001 Tiburons. Completely different from your GK in most ways.
2. Just changing the muffler will just change the sound, but not increase your performance. You are looking FOR the ricey sound?
3. Are you SURE?

in all honesty, you have your priorities all fvcked up. i don't wanna come across like an asshole, but please dont' make your car sound like a Honda.
for the GK's (your car), look into gettin a Borla exhaust or somethin.
cat-back = from the catalytic converter and on....
generally, this is where you'll get a better noise from. You can just throw on a fart can to get an obnoxious sound to it, but why? You won't gain a thing, and all you'll get is obnoxious looks from real tuners and you'll make 12 year old girls wanna sleep w/ you. it's not worth it
all i ask is you figure out what you want to do with your car... and please go for performance and not "rice-factor". stay on rdtiburon.com all you want, but we don't know AS much about your car as the NT.com guys do

Anyway, its not the ricer-sound I just want, for now with my limited pay check. Considering I only make 150 a week ( im only 16, I'll be 17 in a month) so I can't dish out the money some of you guys do. Performance will come later. first off I wanted to trade it in for a V6 GT, but that will have to be done after I fix the damage on the car, before my mom will let me trade it in and co-sign for me, but I know one thing Im getting a Subaru WRX STi before I turn 20. So, my main question is can I just cut off the stock muffler, get a new one weld it on and cut the pipe on the left side and plug the hole and weld it and make it look all nice, that will at least feed my needs till I get some more money flowing in...thanks for being patient with me, and not dicks...

That's what we are here for, and you are welcome to stay around.
The I4 is the Beta 2 on your Tib, and it's very similar to ours. So no problem there.
THe thing you need to learn is, save up for the GOOD stuff. Otherwise, you'll get something cheap, and spend MORE later to get it performing right than you would have to do it right in the first place.
THink of this too.
You are 16/17. In 3/4 more years, do you think the WRX STI is still gonna be the shizzle to make ya sizzle?

Lol, Yes it will I've loved the car for about 4 years, always wanted one. Thanks for being cool, I feel pritty stupid posting on the wrong forums tongue.gif
Anyway, what I explained above - what are your opinions on it, do you suggest I spend the 600 bucks on a GOOD system or just rig it. Like I said it is double mufflers, if I do get a catback, do I just get one or 2 ?

Well, your stock system, is it a Dual exhaust or single? If it's single, then save up your money and get a GOOD system. You won't EVER forgive yourself for a bad exhaust. Trust me.
If it's Dual, then you have too much exhaust for a 4 Cyl, and you need to go down some. Or get a smaller exhaust with a split section and 2 mufflers.
I'd recommend the Apexi N1 Muffler, sounds great.

Its Dual, $490 for each one - comes to $980 total, that will take me ahh about 5 months to pay off 8O lol.gif

Hmm, maybe I should stick to the interior part of the car, this performance stuff is confusing, I'm a visual person rather than being explained how to do it, I would need someone to show me what to do. What would be cool is to work at a auto machanics place and learn everything. But I wanted to get a C/F shift plate, C/F door panels, and make the interior part blue. Also upgrade the sound system BTW: The Tibbys have a kick ass sound system for stock, I was driving to school a few times and I had like 4 people ask me what I had in the car, puzzled I was like jumper cables, spare tire and alot of junk in the trunk, there like no the sound Im like oh its stock, there like no, im like yea - anyway I have an Ipod, I wanted to get Alpines Ipod ready Reciver/Adaptor, and get some new speakers. The rest on my list includes Gear Nob, brake handel, Billet aluminum temp nobs, and billet aluim front dash, the rest of the stuff in blue, and my biggest thing is a Touch Screen LCD monitor which I will never get tongue.gif

just a thought, buy an AEM intake......it'll give you the sound you want w/o the rice factor.
no point in just getting a muffler! its like getting a bacon-cheese burger without the bacon and cheese.....go for a full cat back, and if you can header, then you'll enjoy the sound of your car, but for god sakes dont get a huge rice fart can.
