Default MSD Dis-2 Trouble

I was wondering if anyone out there has had problems with this system. I'm asking because I was driving the other day and my engine comes to a hault. I was going about 40mph and the car just stops. I get it starting again, but the car was idling weird. The RPMs were dropping and rising. When I drove it, I wasn't getting the power I was supposed to get. When I check it the next day, I found the car running really really rich.
I took the car in to a mechanic and got it back today. They told me that the problem was the MSD and that was the reason it was running rich. He had taken it out and now it's running smoothly. I'm just wondering what happened. If anyone can explain this, it would be nice. I'm thinking maybe my MSD is shot. Any help would be nice.
