Mechanical or Electrical Gauges?
Hey Random!!!
I'm planning on buying an Autometer Oil Pressure and Oil Temp Gauge from Autometer.I wanted to know if you think the Electrical gauges is just as accurate as the machanical gauges which Autometer sells.Electrical gauges would be easier to hook up than machcanical gauges.
I was thinking of getting the Ultra Lite series.
Finally where would be the cheapest place to buy them From!! THANKS

Sorry to but in...I've got the Ultra lite, oil press, boost and a/f meters. I got them from Dyna Tune. I think that they were amoung the cheapest, which I needed as I had to pay for them to be shipped to the UK.
I got the mechanical gauges and they work nicely.

I'm A HUGE fan of Electrical vs Mechanical gauges. Especialy when it comes to things like Oil Temp and Pressure. Last thing you want is to bring Oil lines into the passenger compartment for your mechanical gauges...or be forced to mount them at the Hood/windshield on the outside of the car so people can steal them/damage them.
Yes, the Electrical gauges might not be AS accurate as mechanical...however, you have to consider the 2' to 4' of tubing you have to run from the oil line to the gauge. That affects pressure readings too.
I reccomend Electrical gauges, unless you plan on running the car in active racing or dragging....the Electrical meters should be just as accurate for your needs.

I would go with Water temp, as the stock gauge is really more like an idot light, it has no markings on it.
Where do you plan on mounting the EGT gauge? in the Turbo Manifold or in the down pipe.

Random i totally forgot about the mounting of the EGT PROBE.Currently its placed in the number one cylinder of my SR header.Since the SR is coming out to pt the Alpine Manifold i was thinking where is a good place to put the probe???
I have autometer Elect oil pressure and oil temp there the phantom ones which come with differant color bulbs. The problem is I am to lazy to buy guage pod and install these things.

It is really up to you. With the alpine style of "log" turbo manifold, you could drill into the manifold just before the turbo, and mount the EGT probe, or do it right after the turbo in the downpipe. The closer to the exhaust ports, the more accurate the results.
