Ok well lately my 99 Tiburon has been giving me rough shifting especially now that's its winter. I've heard from many people that I should change my tranny fluid and that it would make it shift much nicer. I'm not quite sure how to change the fluid. If you have any great pointers or instructions that would be very nice. Also what manual transmission fluid should I use? I heard redline was good? I don't think my transmission fluid was ever changed because the last owner never took care of this car and it has 105,000 miles on it now. Thanks in advance for your help.

Search. There are already at least two threads about how to do this. Also look on webtech (see the universal webtech login sticky in the DIY forum).

I could not find any other threads on how to do change the fluid besides what fluid to use. Some pointers on how to do it would be very nice. Thanks

bullshit.. next time do a better search.. also, you coulda looked at the webtech link in the new users forum. CRAZY idea, i know

anyway, this will be the only time i will be this nice..

theres a big bolt on the side/bottom of transmission. this is the DRAIN bolt.. its pointing STRAIGHT towards the drivers side. i THINK its like a ~20mm or so.

the FILLER bolt is a 17mm nut on the FRONT of the transmission. its exactly horizontal and not on any angle.

use ~2.3 quarts of trans fluid.

Hyundai recommends changing transmission fluid ever 30,000 on the Manual. Part of what Socks said is right (he will not be this nice again nana.gif ) When you go to fill it, just get a length of clear tubing that fits over the funnel end of the gear oil bottle and feed it into the open bolt on the front of the trans (after sealing the drain bolt) and continue pouring in the gear oil until it starts to come out on it's own through the hole you are pouring it in. The oil should just sit at that level when full.

ive always used the clear tubing/funnel idea. but when we swapped out caj darkmoons clutch he used a MUCH easier way. jack the car up and JUST use the transmission fluid bottle and squeeze it until its empty.. it actually was cleaner than using the tubing set up.

It's either 22mm or 24mm. Look it up in one of the TWO other threads on this (i read them both 10 times before I changed mine, so search again), I think I posted the bolt sizes in one of those threads right after I changed it.

Make sure you get a big ass wrench/ratchet/whatever and have the correct metric socket, my bolt was really stuck in there, I almost rounded it.

Only thing I dont like about jacking it up and doing that is that the car isnt level and you may not have the correct amount in there. Just be careful and if anything, overfill it a little and then let the jack down and let some drip out before putting the plug in. Good luck!

So do you guys not even give one free pass to new people anymore? Socks, you layed into the dude hardcore REDZMAN style. I know we have all this information posted already. we have SHIT TONS of information posted already, yet i never see any consolidation threads exp for a few in the DYI. There has been quite a few new people registering here over the last month or so and a lot of people take it upon them selves to chastise them right off the bat.Unless people are forced to do 10 mandatory searches before they post,we will have questions like this. most people don't know that to get results your expecting you have to use quotes.

Most of my search initiations were given to me by DTN,some people are a bit more , ya ill let that go.

Grab beer, read and write down what you need, it is simpler then a regular oil change.

17mm bolt to fill
24mm bolt to drain

Type of oil to get

Location of bolts
Driver's side only 2 bolts that are that size, the one is where you would expect to find a drain bolt and the fill bolt is on the front (as if you were looking at the car with the hood up)

A lot of people prefer Synchromesh.
A lot of people have had problems with Mobil 1, while several others have had NO problems with Mobil 1.

bullfrog -- the moderator staff is currently working on consolidating threads for newbies so they can easily find information. It came to my attention as I saw this thread posted, knowing it's been discussed multiple times, and we already have a discussion underway in the Moderator forum.

If you would like to help us in our endeavors, you're more than welcome to report related threads that need to be consolidated and that will speed up the process.

I do agree with you, bullfrog. Many members could have qiuckly posted their input or given him a quick answer (probably faster than the replies they did give). I'm only 3,000 miles into my manual transmission, so I don't have as much information to provide, or I would have.
