I have been putting this off for awhile so I am going to do it tomorrow. I don't know when the last fluid change was on my transmission. I went to O'Reillys and bought 3 qts of Royal Purple Max Gear 75W90.

This is the correct stuff right? I know some will suggest ordering Redline, but I do not want to wait.

man i recommend gm syncromesh you can get it from any GM dealer pretty much random got me hooked on that lol

and its like $5 a quart

oh and i used that same royal purple before so you should be fine

javageek 09-23-2005 05:47 PM

Well I got this stuff for about $8 a qt cause I know someone that works there. I just wanted to make sure this stuff wasn't going to eat through my gears.

faithofadragon 09-23-2005 05:52 PM

well then again ive been through 5 tranny's so one of which had royal purple in it so i really dont know

and when i had royal purple in it my tranny didnt shift as smoothly as it did with the redline i had and the syncromesh also

It says GL5, I'd check and see if it has sulfur, or any sulfides in it, which is the part that eats our synchros. If it doesn't, then you should be good.

Well it states this in the FAQ:

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>My vehicle's transmission specifies an API GL-4 gear oil. Can I use Max-Gear®?

Yes. Max-Gear® possesses both API GL-5 and GL-4 certification. Max-Gear® is formulated with Royal Purple's proprietary, Synslide® additive technology to provide the exceptional film strength necessary for GL-5 applications, yet it is noncorrosive to soft metals found in manual transmissions that specify a GL-4 rated lubricant.</div>

I REALLY need to do my fluid, but Faithofadragon keeps forgetting me.

redline Mt-90 >*

my trany has been soo abused... and when i cracked it to install the quafie it looked BRAND new

silvertibbs 09-24-2005 06:54 AM

^ that seems to be what most Hyundai people go with.

That Royal Purple stuff is supposed to be good too though. The mags say it's a decent oil and I think Stacy from TRUCKS! mentioned you can get a few ponies with it because of how well it reduces friction. dunno.gif

I have been running with mt-90 for quite a while now and just a couple of days ago I added half a quart of lucas pure synthetic oil stabalizer. I called lucas up just to make sure that there were no damaging ingredients in this and they said there wasn't. Does anyone here have any experience with the lucas/redline mix? I think it does shift a little better (goes into the gears smoother, no roughness) but I won't know for sure until I actually drive it hard (been trying to hold back due to gas prices). My second gear will damn near always grind if I try to shift into second really fast though, I suppose the synchro is beginning to "lay over" as a transmissions shop employee put it. I paid like $11 a quart for the redline! That store got me for some dough, but they got it next day, as they get nearly anything you need in that timeframe, so I suppose it was worth it. smile.gif
