Default Making a coustom CAI ...Random...please

I am thinking about putting a PVC tubing on my Accent to make a CAI. In which way it wil help? Since I have an Accent (99) the random special will not work (that's what I think). What would be the measures of the tubing??? And most important... Will the Check Engine light be a problem??

Thanks in advance
Any help WILL be appreciated!!! wink

From what Random has posted before his CAI will work for your accent you just might want somewhat smaller tubing. Do not use PVC if you can aviod it. Under hood engine temps and contact with engine or transmission parts can melt PVC. Of course someone is bound to jump on here saying that they have used it for years with no problem but I would not recomend that you use it.

First of all why do you not think that the RS CAI will work on your Accent?

PVC can also give off toxic gasses when heated. Heat wrap won't protect it a whole lot, a bit but probably not enough.

The problem with that flexible exhaust tubing is that it only bends at a certain radius--he may not be able to make tight enough corners to wind its way through his engine bay. Smaller pipe sizes can make tigher turns, but who wants that?

If the angle are two steep use the silicone conectors at those points or pre-formed metal bends and then heat wrap the whole thing.

PVC has been used by others, but I do not reccomend it.

I would reccomend 2" or 2.25" flexable exhaust tubing. The smaller diameter tubing is capable of making sharper bends than the 2.5" stuff. You can make it work with the 2" stuff.

I've done PVC before, and been dissapointed with the results. The 90 degree elbow connecotors for PVC really kill flow/airspeed.
