Default Kuk's 4-1 header install question

Hey all,
I finally got some time to locate a shop capable and willing to install my header on my 97 accent. My only question and concern was the original gasket. I have had a impossible time locating a replacement one, no one has them, not summitracing, they laughed literally when I asked them, pepboys, autozone, vip, napa, nopi, the dealership is too far away and the backorder would set me back another month to get the part.
So can I re-use the gasket, or can the shop if they are capable make me a gasket? What have some of you guys done, IE: batlord you got the header, did you use the stock gasket? I have 70K on mine now.

Order it on the net somewhere.....Then have it shipped the fastest to you. As for re-using...no idea...

Hey man, try these people; they've got shietloads of spare parts for the accent; it's where I got my exhaust manifold gasket too about a while back... Call them; and have them shipped to your address...that's what I did...I think they charged me about $20 for it...including shipping...

Stevens Creek Auto Imports
3155 Stevens Creek Blvd.
San Jose, CA 95117
1-800-945-1006

Here's the "parts" no. you should call:
1-408-984-2001

Just say you need the exhaust manifold gasket for the accent...

hope this helps...

in regards to your questions...I guess you can use your existing gaskets...but it's better if you can get a new set. If you see any tears or any unusual defects on your existing ones, replace them. btw, why would you want a shop to install your headers?? Trust me, if you have a set of sockets and wrenches; I don't see why you can't do it yourself...how much is the shop charging you for installation?

Hey jon,
Well the bolts on my header are rusted up quite a bit, I havent put a socket on em yet, for fear of either striping the bolt, or snapping off the bolt. If I get up some energy to put forth I will try good ol' wd-40 and put it on myself thats if I can get all the bolts off successfully smile.gif The shop is charging me 125 for install.

shaun: OUCH!! Dood... just spray on some wd40 or some prolong on it and let it sit for good 10 min. Get a socket...remember the ol' sayin'...righty tighty; lefty loosy...and the bolt a good push...I'm 100% sure it'll budge... My header bolts were all rusted out too...just the outside that's exposed from the engine. After the 1st time taking the bolts off; every time after that it was a breeze. I wouldn't pay no dealer $125 for the install man; I'd do it for free if you live by here in cali; i actually sorta miss working on the accent. Anyway; yeah; just remember to put some wd40 and let it sit for a while... Oh yeah; it's easier if you used a long socket...I think the bolt is metric 12 mm or 13mm... I forgot...anyway; let us know either way if you need any help..did you get your gasket yet?

Get yer gaskets here

You can make do with the old gasket...but since you are replacing the header..I would suggest a new one. If you were simply replacing it with a new stock exhaust manifold...then I would say you are safe with the old gasket...but the new header should have a new gasket.

Sam- can also get them from korea...but it will take about a week shipping I would guess.
