Does this hurt the car in any way? I had to do it this morning. I think my battery is shot so gonna go get it tested after work today and buy a new one.

The only 'damage' would be more of increased wear and tear IMO, not really harm or damage. Try to keep it around 5-10mph when you pop it, as having a static engine go from 0 oil psi cold oil, now spining at 4k+rpm could increase wear and tear and possible blow some seals? Though if you don't have a hill, you probably won't be able to get that high speed/rpm so you should be fine. The only other slight wear and tear increase would be that tranny braking isn't the best thing for your tranny, but again, don't do every day, but probably no harm every now and then. Best to be slow on the clutch, don't pop it out, give the engine and tranny time to slowly start spinning. Though some times you can hardly push it fast enough and a pop is all that you can do or you will stall as you are going too slow.

It'll slightly increase the wear on your clutch, no more than setting off at a brisk pace would do.

I do it all the time, it's a great gas saving technique.
