QUOTE (Sparticus)
i'll kill the person who didn't edit this before validating it. there are 4 lines of garbage.
how bout this:

and i have no idea. autos are stupid tongue.gif:

I allowed the post.. I am not about to edit what Kit says too much. While maybe he is off the wall, I did not see anything wrong with his post (weird perhaps, but that is a given)

You know though, Something I have heard of happening. There have been cases of high miliage auto trannies going bad AFTER getting a much delayed cleaning. I think it has something to do with fresh fluid eating away all the gunk from where it was settled and getting it stuck in places it shouldn't be.

The moral to that, do your maintance religiously.. especually with an automatic.

^^ I believe I have heard of what Mad is talking about on other cars before. I would redo the flush, the filter should be fine. Reflushing should get out anything that was in there that shouldn't be.

But see there's the weird part I do have mine cleaned I've had everything checked/changed regularly, well since I've had it. Unless the person before me was a total idiot then I don't think that's my particualar problem. I honestly don't know much under the hood at all, but could it something like a gear cylanoid or something small like that making shifting hard or even that a stupid memory chip is going bad? I've checked/double/triple checked my a/t fluid and its at a ok level and doesn't have a burning smell at all like it would if the whole thing was bad so I don't get it. Until I get it checked out tomorrow I won't know for sure....ger...

Well ya I got Keelee checked out, and so now I'm officially screwed....The place I took it to says I need a whole new tranny. They said it'd be 1200-1500 for the actually stock tranny + 500-600 for labor. So I'd say at least 2 grand for everything. Alrighty......any opinions on what I should do? Should I go ahead and pay to get it fixed in the '00 tib or do what the dealer recommended and trade her in for a newer tiburon? Either way I havn't had the car long enough for all the stuff thats going wrong to be messing up. I'm getting so gipped on this...but hey thats life right.....

Okay, the prices they are quoting you are way high. You can get a used transmission for about $300-$500. You can get a rebuilt transmission for about $1000-$1200.

You can remove/re-install it yourself in a day, or, if you've never done it before, in a weekend. I would take your car to a transmission specific place before you call it "dead". Look for a AAMCO near you, or look in the yellow pages for a transmission specific shop near you. They will have the tools and skills necessary to rebuilt your tranny if required.

I would still do a flush/refil and replace the filter. There's no guarantee that who did it 30 days ago did it right...used the right filter or right fluid. If it doesn't work, you're only out about $40 bucks in fluid/filter/gasket cost.

here's the news guys...Apparently my 4th gear is totally stripped and the rest of the gears "aren't in good condition." The transmission is basically shot they told me. So the place I took it to is basically replacing everything. I know it would have just been better to buy a new one and have a close guy friend who's a mechanic put it in, but I had no choice, a parental intervened and had me take it to a transmission shop, everyone thought I'd kill myself taking a chance trying to drive it to much. The transmission place has had my car three days now and won't have it back until this friday...meaning two more days worth of working costs. Also meaning I miss my big car show I have the tib signed up for. There goes $20 bucks. Anyway the total cost he said is going to be around $1700-$1750. Does that sound reasonable to you guys??

Wow, that sucks. If you took it to a dealer, it sounds about right.

I personally would of pulled a tranny (4 hrs) from a junkyard for $75 and did the swap myself (8 hours but free). There would be no way I would pay that much for labor/rebuilt tranny, but thats just me.

^^ I agree... I think you got raped on the price but thats just me. A Hyundai dealer would've put in a brand new tranny and installed it for that price. And Hyundai dealers overcharge for everything.

aight now this isn't fair...Alright I paid the $1,850 to get my tranny rebuilt. I know I got screwed but still. Everytime I'm slowing down into 2nd and 1st it feels like it justs drops/slips into those gears. Like my whole car lurches forward and it's really bugging me. And now I have the slowest take off ever...worse than my neon had. What's going on? Are the slips something that happens when you first fix it or is something else wrong?? My cars kind of making a strange noise too, it doesn't sound very smooth, kind rumbly and rough. Is that bad? Really bad?

should be a warrenty on it. Take it back! If they tell you nothing is wrong, take it to a different shop and get their opinion.
