Default Just got a Cone Filter--and now a question

Okay, I installed my cone air filer and I must say this was a lot easier than I was expecting. I mean it took like 30 minutes. The box came right off and the filter just slipped over. And I even got the air temp sensore to fit like a glove in the little hole I made. However, that pastic air diverter and the attatchment overtop (silencer?) that feeds air into the old air box, does it go as well? I left in there thinking it would help the flow of air to the cone. Me wrong? Should it go as well? Why?

Those parts you left are "the resonator". You can remove them, or leave them there. It's your call. They really dont supply any cold air.

#1. There is a rubber seal on the hood that seals the hood, so no air gets in there.

#2. The convoluted path that the air would have to take to get in there....not much would make it out if any air made it IN! If so...it would come out has "heated" air due to the resonators proximity to the engine/exhaust/radiator...

Well, I thought this peice of plastic actually diverted air into the air box. Should I remove it then?

I just waisted a Civic SiR with this new modification just two hours ago...woohoo!

What does the resonator do? And how important is the aircleaner? Is it ok to remove the aircleaner when putting in an intake?

Well, according to this picture. I removed the air box but not the resonator nor the air duct. They just feed out to open air since the box is gone. Now I am curious whether or not this air duct should be removied as well.

Hey Slipsteam,

You were wondering if it would be ok to remove the air duct from your resonator. The answer is-yes. It will not hurt anything to do that. Heck, man after reading about all the different mods you could do to gain hp I decided to buy a drop in K&N airfilter and to take off the resonator & air duct & placed a aluminum duct(hose)running from the stock filter to the fender where fog lights are installed(this will change later when I install fog lights). It may just be me but man, does it(the car) seem to respond better do to the cold air coming up from bottom of fender. "THAT'S MY STORY & I'M STICKING TO IT". See ya.

THOR When installing an intake, you would remove the airbox, and the resonator.

Slipstream, you don't have to remove the resonator, but it helps.

TheRev The mod you described is "the Snorkus" mod. It's been around since the early days of the tibbies and it does work!
