ok ive been lookin over designs as i was thinkin of makin a custom IM for myself and i was lookin for advice(what can i say im a cheap ass)

here is what i came up with

getting a stock IM and cutting off right after the mounts(what hold the fuel rail on) and welding some mandrel tubing to it

i was thinking of going with shorter runners for faster responce as per the type r intake manifold design

for the plenum using some sheet metal to make it
here is a cheapo quick paint pic

with my homemade IM im free to use any throttle body i please as long as i find a flange and such...

anyone see any flaws with my plan?

I've been waiting for someone to desighn their own manifold for a very long time. Glad someone decided to do it. The only drawback about having shorter runners is that it may kill some torque but you should gain some top end with the possibility of increasing the rpm range slightly. Were you going to use the same diameter on the runners?

well i was thinkin goin like 2inch tubing for the runners maybe even just a straight shot into the motor we have the room for it...

kinda like this one

yes i stole the pic lol

obviously the plenum will be on the other side

oh and i know ill lose some torque in NA mode...the s/c should make up for it cool.gif

You know if you were to keep the stock length of the runners and increase the diameter, it may yield overall better results then shortening them. Just my 2cents

well what do you think of the plenum idea? ive seen some like that before

i might just use some like 4 inch tubing or somethin like that instead of a box manifold not sure yet
the tubing might be better since it wount have such a obstruction for the air path

whats the diameter of the stock pipes like 1.5 or so right?

i guess ill just have to mess around with it

good thing i know someone with a flow bench and a welder....hint hint....

It definately sounds like a worthwhile project. If the stock runners are 1.5, then I would start off using 1.75 or maybe 2.0 inches in diameter at the most just to see what it does with that. Good luck with your project. I have an extra stock manifold laying around somewhere if you should ever need it.

i was reading that and there is a TON of useful information

im almost tempted to get down and make a custom fuel rail also lol well i wouldnt be doin it i would map it out and maybe bug the hell out of my friend jason to weld it for me lol

i wonder...

i guess it would help a little if i can actually read the site lol

i think ill go with 1.75 tubing i found out that the velocity stacks they use on the fiats and gixxer are that size so i wouldnt have to fab more

the one pic i saw on that site looks exactly what i was thinkin of (well kinda) for the throttle body flange im gonna just weld on a throttle body spacer lol

actually they used a TB from an acura integra, for the flange they simply cut the flange part of the integra manifold and welded it to they're plenum
