Plus looks like you need to move the carbon canister for that.

 

I'd bet the cost of it that the AEM makes more power.

 

i have NO doubt of that, but $150 more power? nah.

BTW, 12whp equates to 9% gain at the tires. I dunno... I'd pay $200 for that.

 

I do remember vaguely some back and forth of which was better between the AEM and the eBay CAI that was less then half the price. I don't remember ever seeing a definitive dyno comparison between the two. Loved my eBay CAI, still rocking it actually!!

 

As stated, im well aware itd be better, but a) havent got $200 (will be £200 landed here ish)

With everything else running on the car, im unsure it would add similar results.



The goal with this filter setup was not the power, but intake temp. Which is now 30' lower than the old floating cone.



It doesnt lag at any rpm, so is getting plenty of air in. Its going off to dyno at the weekend either way. Worth noting also that its on 97octane fuel atm so that should minimise the issues that you saw.

 

For the record, I think the eBay CAI is just as good as any $200+ piece of pipe. Come on, it's a piece of pipe. Unless its coated with super duper slick sh*t on the inside, it's a pipe with a filter. The biggest gain is getting rid of the OEM intake. You've already done that, better placement will just help out.



You have a valid concern about placement being in a part of the world that gets lots of rain. I actually think your idea of battery relocation and putting the CAI closer to the front of the car is a good idea.

 

Why does the eBay one look like the AEM? Because it's a copy. Why does the AEM look the way it does? R&D. I've been to AEM's R&D and production facility in Long Beach. It's not just a piece of pipe. Being in the automotive aftermarket industry for 20 years, I've seen how Chinese knock offs hurt the industry. I choose to buy the branded item.
