I'm lazy..
I installed my aem cold air intake last weekend but I didn't put the shield that you are suppose to trim back on. I didn't feel like trimming it. Does it make a big difference? Should I trim and put it back on? Thanks.
P.S. It sounds awesome. I love it!!!!!!!!!!

I live in Seattle and I know that if I had left that piece off my engine would be destroyed by now. If you live anywhere it rains I'd suggest cutting it. It really wasn't even that hard for me to cut. I just used a steak knife I had at my house and my friend held it while I cut. The plastic cut surprisingly easily. So I think that it would be foolish to not take the five minutes to cut it because it could end up messing with your engine.
well i did not put it back on and i change my filter every 6 months.. now you know having a dirty filter= cleaner air into the engine but it also does= less air soo ... you will have to be the judge.. and i live in south east pa soo i do experence some harsh weather...

Dude, think about this for a sec.
A dirtier filter will mean you have more of a chance of getting smaller pieces of crap into the engine, when it's sucking air and you're reving at like 6k's
PUT THE PIECE BACK PEOPLE.
MAKE THE HOLE, DON'T BE LAZY.
If you want some more air to go to your filter. cut a little slit at the bottom of the fender liner and hold it open with some tie straps.
Probably cut a slit about 1"X5" at the front of this piece:

Then when you need to close it back up (ie winter) just use the zip ties to do it, or duct tape
