Default I did this...

I went to Canadian tire and bought a 4* round, deep dish air filter. Its about 3* deep. There's a 2 1/2* opening where I fastened it to my throttle body. Sounds a lot racier, sucks air right through the filter, which is only 2 inches away from the valve. Now all I need to do is make an air-scoop and place it just in front of my windshield, and then have the filter seat in a box so the scoop forces cold air into the filter, doesn't sound like a bad idea...

Nice idea....till it rains. Then your little setup will force rain/water right into your filter, and thusly into your engine.

A *ram air* setup has to have some form of pressurized airbox. This allows the high speed air to slow and create pressure. When this happens it drops the water as the air slows. You then need a drain hole or two for the *pressurised* air in the box to force the water out. You also need some horzontal, and preferably vertical seperation between the air inlet, and the air filter.

Ram air setups are NOT easy to do. Depending on the location and *size* of the scoop, they usually don't work until you are doing 60+ MPH. If mounted in a bad location, the *scoop* can be 100% inneffective at creating pressurized air in the airbox.

There's a reason 99% of cars on the market don't use ram air, and the ones that do, it's mainly a marketing tool rather than an effictive power adding device.
