How much Oil??!!
Ok, how much oil is the 2001 Tib supposed to take?!! The manual says 3.5l but when I put in just 3l and check the stick it reads OVER what should be in there!!!!! The dipstick indicates there should be around 2.5-2.75l. So what should I believe - THE DIPSTICK OR THE MANUAL.
PS I did a good search through TeamSR & FXtreme and there is nothing I can find on this topic. I'm shocked nobody has asked this already! eek.gif

that sounds funny. even on my accent it holds 3.5 quarts. if you are talking about 3.5 liters there is your mistake that would way overfill it. it is 3.5 quarts for my accent. on the tiburon i dont know 3.75 quarts? somebody help me out here. smile.gif
thats odd. are you sure your draining all the oil out before you put the new oil in and remove the filter and replace with a new one? I didnt think the tiburon held 4.5 quarts. thats still strange that it would show overfull after 3 quarts. did you wait long enough for it to drain down before you measured it? from the low mark on the dipstick to the full mark is a difference of 1 quart. i dont know what else to tell you. sad.gif

Per my shop manual.
The oil pan holds 3.26 quarts
The oil filter holds .26 quarts.
Total 3.5 Quarts (does't quite add up, should be 3.52 Quarts)
So if you did not change your oil filter, 3 quarts should put it in the acceptable range. (just a 1/4 quart low)
Your dip stick might not be 100% accurate. Run the engine for 30 mintues (drive around). let it sit for 1 hour. Then measure the oil level. That should be the accurate reading. If it does not, go with the above figures, an remark your dipstick accordingly.

I changed the oil filter and let both the filter hole and the oil pan hole sit open untill both showed only a slow drip of old oil (5-10min with oil pan nut off and filter off) I replaced the old filter with the new one (a mobile 1 m1-104) then added 3 quartz of moble one 10-w30. I lowered the car off the jack stands and measured it 4 times. Once in 5min,10min,15min, and 2hrs later. All read full - just a hair above the top marker. Also, she Hyundai 2001 Tiburon owners manual under vehicle specifications on page9-3 says with the filter it should hold 4.5 US quarts. Is that a typo or what? Should it say 3.5? I don't want to ruin my engine by running to low or too high of oil so what should I do? Should I go ahead and add another .5qt or take out some of the oil so the dipstick reads right? I think I'll call my dealer and get some advise. Any other comments though would be invited. Thanks for your help! smile.gif

Did you run the engine? If not, the oil filter never got filled with oil, hence the high reading. Drive as normal for 20-30 minutes, then let sit one hour, then measure the oil level.
If it still shows high, your dipstick may be mismarked. You should be able to compare your dipstick to another at your dealer. Do not compare them from the bottom up, Hang both off the edge of a counter or table by the "stop" on the dipstick where it normally rests in the tube, and see if both are the same length at the bottom, and if the markings line up.

yeah randoms right if they dont line up. make the dealer give you a new dipstick since your otehr one is defective. anyways.
just make sure you have 3.5 quarts in there and you should be just fine. smile.gif

None the less, the manual says it holds 4.5quarts but I can't even put in 3quarts without it showing too much.
