Default How long do stock oil pan gaskets last?

My car started to leak oil and its coming from the side of the oil pan. The pan itself is in great shape (no dents or holes), and my car is only 5 years old. Wondering what would cause the gasket to wear out and cause oil to seep out. I checked to make sure the pan was attached and torqued down correctly. I can get a new gasket for $20 at a local parts place, but it just pisses me off this happened on a car that isnt that old.

stock 'gasket' is RTV i believe (at least is in the RDs)

i prefer a gasket though, like you can order at the store.

Usually the stock oil pan seal holds up a LONG time, sometimes the life of the car. interesting that yours is leaking after only 5 years.. ever hit anything that might have bumped the oil pan. i know the beta II oil pan (aluminum) wont dent like the beta I (steel) will, so if you did ever hit something that rubbed the pan, it could have broken the seal.

If it's under warranty, have the dealership take a look. A newer car really ought not to leak like that.

Might want to make sure its not coming down the block or head and your just seeing it at the oil pan.

Its the lowest part so regardless of where its leaking from on the motor, you'll eventually see it there.

Id personally check the valve cover(s)(v6) before going to crazy
