You really can't go with the intake manifold, thats a universal part (both for the 1.8 and 2.0). What u can look for, to make sure, is the code that is on the block itself. On the front of the block... is printed in large letter wither RD1.8 or RD2.0. This is located behind the exhaust manifold, so if you have a header, u can see it. If you have a stock exhaust manifold yuo can try to look aroudn it. In the states, the FX was the 2.0 engine, and the regular model was the 1.8. So it all comes down to the badgng on the rear of the car. Oh, and just to add in .02 cents of info. the 1.6 BETA has a smaller block (smaller pistons). I thought I'd tell you this because europe/asia got the 1.6 in 97 as well.

How to know what engine is installed in car?
2.0 and 1.8 differs only by internals (different stoke, intake cam).

Very Simple................
The 1.8L motor has a RD18 Stamp on the front face of the block and the 2.0L has a J2 20 stamp written on there.
The heads and evrything else are identical between the two motors EXCEPT the internals as well
Hope this helps!

Just look at the intake manifold! Its got EFCI on the top. Ive only seen that badge on 1.8s.
Not so much
The 98's and older had that,... 99+ did not
Personally, I like that ricey label! wink1.gif
