How do I know if my engine is Beta 1 or Beta 2?
the beta one is from 97-01, beta 2 only offered on 2003 + tibs
as to how, i don't know, take off the head and see if the valve train is hydraulic or not, or pull out both cams and see if they have XD stamped into them.
But as long as its the original engine in the car it will be a beta 1

It's a Beta I. You can verify this if you have a MAF sensor on your intake. It's a black plastic 4"x3" tube with wires hooked up to it. The valve cover and IM also look different, but they're hard to explain.

Thats only true if you live in the US, it seems most other countries used a map sensor on the beta1, but all the 1.8 beta's are beta1.

But going by his name "canadiantib", I assumed he was in Canada with a MAF based system. wink.gif

Nothing at all.
