Default 97-00 B&M short shifter

Well, i hav juz finished replacing my rad and head gasket due to engine overheat.. Two weeks my car stayed at home and rested..

So, now i get a little HEATophobia, meaning I fear heat inside my engine so I get a little paranoid when my temp gauge approaches halfway..

Anyway, my observation: It takes only about 5 minutes when aircon is off (and fan is not running) to reach the halfway temp in my gauge, whilst if I switched my aircon on (and the two fans run), my temp gauge only goes as far as 1/3..

Now, I understand that the fan will activate once the water temp reaches a certain temp.. Any idea on how to "override" this method wherein my fan will switch on after the engine is running and the aircon is off?

I love to just hang-out nearby and make some "boom-boom" while switching my engine on but it would be awckward if I switched on my aircon when I am parked and enjoying listening to loud music... :?

You can hook a switch to the fan.

I cant figure the schematic..Last time I have electronics class was still in high school, about 10 years ago..
Anyway, can the schematic be summarized? Like we just have to short what wires? smile.gif

I think you would hook a switch to the two wires running to the thermostat. Have it so that it bypasses the thermostat when the switch is on. Right tibby01?

well, i dont really know what everything does. there is the thermostat, temperature sensor, and temperature sender. you cant just use a switch, because there is a certain range of resitance in which the ecm will know when to turn the fans on. it says...

"The engine control module (ECM) controls the operation of the engine cooling fan and the condenser fan. The control module monitors coolant temperature through engine coolant temperature sensor. The module also monitors A/CON operation through the A/CON ON input and A/CON pressure switch input. Using these inputs, the ECM will ground the coils of the radiator fan relay and condenser fan relay. The appropriate cooling fan activated. For more detailed information, please refer to cooling fan logic table on page SD-46."

i would just run wire #45 which goes to the ecm to one prong of a switch, and the other prong straight to ground, since the ecm just grounds the coil for the radiator fan when it senses the engine to be too hot. his might cause a CEl though, because the ecm might usually detect voltage through the coil once it grounds it. if you try it, make sure you leave room to go back, just in case it throws a cel. anyway, it is a green wire #45...

if someone can explain which things (thermostat, temperature sensor, and temperature sender) do which, then i could give a couple solutions. this one seems pretty good though, especially since you wont have to go through the firewall at all.

i think it's the sensor that activates the whole thing. if the water temp is hot, resistance is ?, fan is on...
so, we will have to fool the sensor to send a hot signal to the ecm... :?:
