this has been going on for long time. it usually has normal rpm's, but during at least half of the time driving when i stop the car at a stoplight the rpm's stay at a constant 1800 rpm. say i let the car stand in a parking with the engine running, the rpm will go back down to 1000 only after about 7-8 minutes. charging voltage is normal 14.6 after the manual swap. engine temp is fine. I do have a very very slight radiator leak.
what in the name is this... ? help is appreciated.

disconnect it and change your idle. If you reconnect the IAC and the idle changes, then it's working. I don't think there's a way to do a thorough checkout though. If you could get a flowmeter, it might be more possible to check it. I'd recommend hooking it up and disconnecting it from the electrical circuit, then checking the roller flap inside for smooth operation.

thanks DTN!! gsasha and zoned019 have/have had the same problem. i should combine the thread but i didn't find their thread until now. i moved the [kefico] TPS back and fourth and sure enough the idle moved back and fourth. the wire loom is good, so i took a razor and scratched the terminals clean. after that it seems like the problem vanished and the car runs like a champ again. hope it holds up. is there any kind of conductive lube i can use to stuff in the terminals?
but i only drove it for today though. is the IAC valve behind the intake next to the throttle cables? i'll try cleaning out those terminals as well. it's funny that such a small thing like that can ridiculously affect performance. i've heard about checking out the inside too, i think i remember you posting about it a long, long time ago.
