High Octane Fuel

No, it won't hurt anything in your engine, at the most it will hurt your wallet...
But if you get a better ECU, then you could have some mods and take advantage of that extra octanes.

what kind of ECU?
The RD ECU can adjust to quite a wide range of octanes, however your CAT will probably get the bad end of it!
We had 97 leaded octane freely availabe up untill this year, which I used to run all the time and feel the differece.
Now the standard is 95 unleaded, and 95 lead replacement petrol. Car doesn't quite have the same kick.

there is really no benifits in running it though as our cars are fairly low compression.... you'll see much better n/a gains than you would with our 8:1s though.
ours are low compression? what are you talking about? ours are not 8:1, its 10.3:1, big differance and thats actually pretty high compression for a stock engine
people get low compression pistons that typically bring the compression to 8.5:1, which would be an increase if we had 8:1.
We dont see gains from running higher octane fuel because the ecu isnt agressively advancing timing to the point before detonation, which would yield higher hp with higher octane.
QUOTE
Detonation can be in result of high compression ratio or high boost level.
thats somewhat misleading, high boost level only creates detonation if the fuel tune is not rich enough to prevent detonation.
Detonation can be caused by a few factors including hot spots, lean fuel condition under boost, too low octane gasoline (under 85 on a stock engine), bad timing (most likely too advanced), etc
I run 93 cuz im boosted, at 7-8psi i have hit 16+ afr (briefly) with no detonation, thank god, no i didnt mean to go to that high of afr; Damn Autometer.

heres a question
now i know we say search search search....but why do you keep bringing back the dead? this post was from over a year ago
well, faith no offense but i was about to do the same thing right now...
i was just wondering if anyone had any gains or whatever, or what there preference of fuel is.
i just filled up from e (12 gallons) with 93 octane for 30$...and since we only have a 14.5 (iirc) gallon tank, i only spent 2$ more...
and yeah, i thought we had a fairly high comp. engine...10.3:1 is higher than my sister's 02 monte carlo...and a couple of the "fuel saving/epa" sites said that our cars are the "high performance" (lol) ones that need the higher octane fuel.
nother question, does it really "burn your engine clean"?

my .02 is, note this is all in my opinion, with our beta motors since they are low compression i see you would want to run a lower octane fuel cause it would you run leaner than running premium. i ran both and did not notice a difference between the two. i say might as well spend less for gas than spend more when it doesn't really do much.
