so Im cruising around last night, going about 25, shift into 3rd gear, and it doesnt land the shift, im thinking thats strange, so I try again nothing, so I try again and by this time im having a half a heart attack, Having already gotten into a slight fender bender earlier in the afternoon, going 1-3 mph literally, my heart was sinking, I was able to get it into 4th then 5th, and get to a stop sign, by this time I cant down shift or anything, so I have no Idea whats going on, I had to get my car towed at 1 in the morning, Im going to start calling around tommorow, Im worried my transmission might have died on me, the clutch works fine, but the shifter is literally stuck in the 5th gear position, my boss tells me it might be my synchros, the tow guy said my clutch might have died on me, I have only had my car for 3 months and its only got 56k miles on it, HELP!!!!!!




*BTW I should mention Im driving an 01 tiburon with the 2.0L 4 cyl (5 spd MT)

did it make any strange sounds when it missed the shift? sounds like the clutch.that's what mine did when the clutch went.

From what you discribed, sounds like clutch to me too.

How do you know ???

And what you mean by over revving??? Like you're in 4th, gas it and the RPMs go up but not gaining speed?
THAT totally sounds like clutch

yeah, it's the clutch. i had to drive mine to the shop to get it fixed. i was in first at redline and going like 5 mph.

when I was shifting my tach went from about 1600-1800 to 5k, so I took my foot off the gas, and what I mean by the clutch working is the clutch pedal, however the car wont move at all when I turn it on, clutch depressed or otherwise, Im at a loss im not a car guy (yet...)

also as I said before the shifter itself will not move at all, it wiggles but as for leaving gear it wont budge at all

can you take gear out when engine is off?

no I cant move the shifter at all engin on or off, clutch in or out.

Check the obvious first... is your clutch fluid topped off?
