Help with my tranny grinding into 5th...
Hey guys, I really appreciate the input. I feel really confident in bringing my car back now. You guys are really the best in RD enthusiasts, and with your replies, I have no doubt. I know the ins and outs of the aesthetics, but I'm still "getting" the mechanical aspects. I'll be sure to update on the outcome of this dumb fiasco here. Thanks again.

My Tib does this also.... From time to time when I'm driving and shift into 5th gear it grinds a bit. It does not do this when I'm at a stand still. So basically its the synchros? From what I read this is covered by warranty, but would that be the 100,000 mile warranty? I hope so because I'm at 97,000 miles on my '01 and need to get this taken care of now if thats the case....
Bouve.. Usually when the synchros are gone for a gear, itll still be hard to put it into that gear when the car is off/stopped.. The only reason it grinds, is because the gears are spinning.. Just check the feel when the car is off, if it is harder than the others, and its harder to pop out of gears and grinds while moving, its most likely the synchros
my tiburon does the same thing but instead od 5th its 2nd gear. It does it on high rpm's. it only does it on second. I can shift fast and hard on all the other gears but not second.... you think its the synchro????

wow i pretty much understand a manual tranny now that it has been explained with visual accompaniment
i think its the syncro, im in a hyundai dealership right now and theyre takin care of it because of the warranty, lol... but yeah i'll let you know what the problem is once they tell me, hopefully whatever it is can be covered my the warranty, but w/e 8O :?: 8O
i need to think about it now, they said the same thing that if its not a problem with the tranny then there gonna charge me like 600 dollers for labor and parts and all that shit.... but if its a problem with the tranny i dont pay nothing, im not sure what to do, i think the syncro is probablly just off alignment or someshit like that, i think we should take a poll or something, that will help me out sorta.... what u guys think??? :?:
