OK, so i a couple weeks back i just put on my CAI. A few days after, i hear this high pitched noise coming from my engine. I dont think my CAI could be the problem. It sounds like maybe the belts are slipping. I'm not sure though. It usually happens when I rev it to about 4K and when it starts to go down. It didnt do this before I put the CAI on. Has this happened to anyone before? Also, my friend said it might be the bearing in the alternator has gone out, because he had the same noise in his truck. PLS HELP ME OUT.

 

Check you belts, are they loose, old and cracked? I think replacement on them is like 30k. Replaced them recently? Re adjust 1 week after install? Check you powersteering fluid. Fill if needed check for leaks prior to filling. Could be the bearing but that is the last place I would fix. I would also say it could have something to do with water pump or a/c but prolly not.

 

Gman about covered it. Start with the cheap stuff first (belts) and work up to the expensive (alternator) It might also help to have a friend rev the car while you have the hood open and can listen in exactly where the noise is coming from. Just remember not to wear loose clothing and to tie any long hair back. you do NOT want to meet the engine by getting sucked into the belts.

 

Were we suppost to change them at 30k, because I dont think the previous owner did anything, like I found out I had black trans fluid when I first got it

 

Is the noise dependent of your AC? Try seeing if it comes and goes whether your AC is on or off. I had a similiar problem (high pitched noise), the compressor ended up seizing and I had to have it rebuilt. Also happened when my v-belt needed to be adjusted.

 

Nice Pudge, I've never run into that. If it is more like a squeal then it's most likely your belts. But the CAI does produce a noticable sucking sound that might be throwing you off.

 

use engine belt dressing/conditioner

if the high pitch noise changes.. then BAM.. its the belts.

Look at the belts and see their condition. If they are cracked... thats bad. If they have threads coming out of them.. they are starting to go bad..
