I have a 2001 tib 5-speed, and i'm going to be changing the clutch and flywheel. I have removed all the bell housing bolts as well as everything that should be removed when taking the trans out. I've gotten it pulled off the engine about 3/4 of an inch all the way around and it seems to be getting stuck on something and won't come out any further. I don't know what it can be gettin stuck on. Is there something inside the trans that would keep me from wrestling it the rest of the way out? Got it tore down for removal in about 2 hours but have spent all week trying to get it off the engine. Any insight will be appreciated, i'm just getting frustrated at this point...
You have to remove the nut from the fork, pull it up and rotate it. Its not easy to desribe but there is a 12mm nut you need to take off on top of the trans that holds the fork. Then pull it up and rotate it past where it would usually stop. Then youre free.

I've taken out the two 12mm bolts on top of the trans for the shift cables and pulled the lever up and back towards me as far as i can get it. But it doesn't feel like its disengaged all the way?

The THROWOUT fork guys. The one that moves the THROWOUT bearing. Not a shift fork.

DOH! haha didn't know i had to remove that nut, ended up being a 14mm under the rad hose. It's already dark so i'm not going to work on it anymore til tomorrow. I guess rdt was down for about 2 hours or so but thanks for the quick responses guys. The lever felt like it was in there pretty good just pulling up by hand. Did you all use a puller or a pry bar on it by any chance?
