Default Heat wrapping intake... Few questions

I have KORE intake and I am planning to put heat wrap (found online store HERE). I have 2 reasons why I want to put heat wrap. First, I want my car to inhale even more cold air (after driving like 30 minutes). Second, I accidentally made a BIG hole in the fenderwell so my CAI moves and touches with inside body parts (sharp point metal). I already saw scratch and other ugly stuff on surface of my CAI. I was thinking that heat wrap might provide "cushion" effect so that my CAI is safe even if it hits with sharp metal parts. How durable are those heat wraps? (I might put triple coating if I have to happy.gif)

By the way, above online store had 3 different heat wraps:
1) 1 in. wide x 50 ft. long, Thermo-Tec header wrap
2) 2 in. wide x 50 ft. long, Thermo-Tec header wrap
3) 2 in. wide x 15 ft. long, Thermo-Tec header wrap

Which one do I need to purchase for double to triple CAI wrapping?

Also, do you put the heat wrap with regular clamp, or do I need to purchase special adhesive?

Thanks

get the 2inX50 feet. I beleive I used half a roll of 50ft roll of thermotec. You don't NEED the adhesive, but its fun wink and easier. The metal clamps/ties are very easy to connect, but i used zipties. One layer should be good, but double layer probably isn't going to be that mutch improvement over the single layer and its alot thicker. triple wrapping? well for this price, you might as well ceramic coat your intake wink

just my 2c wink

Thanks lot Decker

I think I will still triple wrap just a section of the pipe where it touches with metal smile.gif

I just made my own Random CAI and used the 2x50ft roll as well. I didn't use it all but it still overlaped a half inch or so which is more than enough..anymore is overkill. Plus I bought the Thermotec spray that you spray over the heat wrap. It stiffens it up, keeps it from moving around too much and looks better than the tape imo. I got creative with holding the tape on the intake, I cut sections of a metal slinky apart and it was the perfect fit

Ceramic coating will work to block heat, but won't protect the CAI from scratches. The heat wrap should do both.

2" wide by 50 should be enough to double wrap the whole thing, but I doubt you will have enough left do triple wrap it.

Heat wrap is NOT durable. If you remember the old cartoons where someone would pull one thread and the whole sweater would unwravel...heat wrap is made like that.

If you have a rubbing or chaifing problem, try to put old rubber hosing over the metal bits. Hold it in place with some silocone. You can remove it for carshows rather easily, and it keeps everything looking purdy.

Notice the little bit of rubber hosing I added to my car when I had the MHP CAI

Random, Thanks for the pic. I was thinking about doing that but couldn't find which material and adhesive to use. I shall heat wrap CAI and put rubber around metal corners.

NOTE!!! if you plan to wrap your CAI, you might as well re-route your radiator fluid going to your throttle body, otherwise you just wasted $50 on thermal wrap. You can keep your air in your CAI cold, but when it reaches your TB, it gets hits a heated throttlebody.

for those who don't know this. your radiator fluid has a line that runs through the throttlebody to warm air going into the engine(for sever cold tempratures up north). so if your going through the trouble of wrapping your CAI, you should do this(another 30min) and get the most out of this mod. There will be two conduits runing to the throttle body, remove one, disconnect the other from the throttlebody and connect it where the other one was removed, completing the circuit. You will spill, so remember to let your engine cool down and do it quick smile.gif
