Heat wrap CAI? K&N cleaning?
I'm going to look into heat wrapping my CAI, when I clean my car this weekend. My K&N is also pretty dirty. What should I heatwrap my CAI with? I have a MHP metal one that gets pretty warm, and I'm sure it doesn't help at all.
Also when I clean my K&N?(about 20K) should I just replace it? or knock it off and clean it with what? Someone told me I have to clean it with oil???(is he ****ting me?not motor oil I hope?)

ThermaTech heat wrap is good stuff. JCWhitney carries, as should auto supply places in your area.
Don't trash your K&N! The company puts out kits to use to clean and recondition your filter. It is NOT ENGINE OIL, but a different oil put out by the company. Once again, JCWhitney carries it, and auto supply stores should either have it in stock, or should be able to order the kit in.

Cleaning the K&N is falling-off-a-log easy. The instructions are right there on the cleaning kit bottles. Spray, wait, rinse, air-dry, and then oil it. Takes about 10 minutes of work, and a couple hours of drying time.
As for heat wrap: thermotec is the best. JCWhitney sells it cheap, but they beat you up on S&H charges. If you have a larger order from them, it's worth it, otherwise you can probably get it at your local rice shop for the same price.
It makes a huge difference. My intake used to heat soak after about 15 minutes, now, according the OBDII datalogger, my temps are completely constant (+/- 5 degrees) over a 20 minute run. They even got cooler when I was running it hard (more airflow).
Good luck,
ac

K&N sells a cleaning kit for their filter it costs about $20 (comes with one bolttle of cleaning solution and one bottle of recharging oil) but will give you about 10 cleanings. First you spray on the cleaner genoursly and let it sit for about 5 min. so it connect with all the dirt then rinse it off. Let it stand untill it dries. Then put the K&N recharging oil on it, you apply it but going up the raised part or the filter and then down the next and then up (you get the point) let sit until it soaks into all the fibers and it's important not to over do it (it will make a big mess) just put enough on that all the element of the filter turn a light shade of red. Once it has all soaked in reapply if you see you missed any spots (parts that are still white not light red) put it back on your CAI and your done.
I think i'm actually loosing more power then i'm gaining because of the heat the CAI pics up. But i'll get some uber kick a$$ heat wrap tape, that should help.
Is there anyway, after I wash my K&N with water, I can use a hair-dryer or something to dry it off quicker, I have to do this at my parents house, and I don't want to stay their all day.

What I usually do as funny as it sounds is grab the bottom of it and swing it around like if you were going to throw it but you still hold on to it but still go threw the motion of throwing it that works great. The hair dryer will work just becareful because there are little peices of metal that hold in the fibers of the filter and if they get to hot you will get burnt. A hair dryer will just dry up the dampness not the water that is soaked in try my idea if you want as silly as it might sound but like I said it works.
Hey jaws, guess what I made a a$$ of myself and it worked great wink.gif Swung it around. Dryed it a lot quicker! Thankx
I was looking for heatwrap for the CAI, but the only thing I found on the Jcwhitney site is heatwrap tape for a turbocharger? is that what I need?

Get the 2" stuff. It is MUCH easier to work with compared with the 1" stuff.
Wear rubber gloves with it unless you hands are caloused and you don't mind fiberglass bits in them.
In regards to the filter. Clean it per K&N's instructions with the filter cleaning kit...then do the spin trick...then hook it up to a wet dry vac or a normal vaccum cleaner. That dries it rather fast. Hair dryers don't work because they over heat due to the backpressure caused by the filter.
Don't use a leaf blower, as it would be too powerful and would damage the filter.
