Default Headers and Emission Testing

Good Morning All!

Ok so I installed my ARK Catback Exhaust and love it. I have been looking into headers and the problem I am running into now is that I live in the state of Delaware! Delaware requires a yearly emissions test where they check for Cels and perform a sniffer test.

I need to install Headers but if I do that then i will be eliminating my Catallytic converters which will not allow me to pass my test.

Does anyone know a way around this or am I going to have to find someone that will do a custom setup? If it has to be a custom set up what would they have to do?

Unfortunately still a newbie but I was interested in the ARK R Spec headers and it says they are 6-2-1. I also saw some other headers that were 4-2-1. Can someone explain the rations there and what type of headers would yield the most HP/Performance gain?

I wanted to try the Magnaflow High low cat but I heard that it really doesn't pass the sniffer test plus I am not getting the HP out of a high flow cat that I would see out of normal Headers. Can anyone help or know how to accomplish getting the headers and passing teh emissions OBDII test??

Any and all comments are GREATLY appreciated!

You can get a cat welded in with flanges so that you can bolt in a "test pipe" without a cat when you want to go catless.

My opinion is that going with a high flow cat is your best option though. A lot of people pass the sniffer test that way and you lose almost no performance.

So you think I could get away with installing a High Flow Cat, not sacrifice a lot of HP with it, and still pass that damn test? If so I think I saaw that Magnaflow makes a High Flow cat...Know any others? Will it throw a CEL, that you know of?

I have a header and a Magnaflow high flow cat and no CEL. I don't have to do emissions testing, but I know others that do and they have passed with the same setup.

6-2-1 and 4-2-1 are for V6 and I4 engines respectively

187...I apologize for the "dumb" question but I am just starting out.....So I could do the ARK R Spec Headers with the Magnaflow HIghflow cat?

Should one be bought before the other or should both be bought and installed at the same time?

Sorry for the newbie questions....

No need to apologize for not knowing something, we are glad to help.

You can do the ARK headers and a Magnaflow high flow cat. However, things aren't going to bolt together and unless you're a welder you'll need to get the cat welded in at an exhaust shop. You will also more than likely need to extend your rear oxygen sensor wires because the rear oxygen sensor needs to be behind the cat to work properly.

I was looking at the Magnaflow High Flow Headers with Highflow Catalytic converter. Dumb question but I need both the Front and Rear Manifold applications correcT?

Magnaflow makes headers for the Tiburon which include high flow cats? I will have to look that up. If so, that's probably a good direction to go unless the design is crap.

You will need both the front and rear. I would want to see a picture of what you're getting before ordering though.

Just looked up the Magnaflow headers. Not impressed. Won't be much better than stock. Basically bolt in manifold replacements. Expensive too. I wouldn't buy them.
