Is it safe to lenghten the O2 sensor plug wire?

 

yeah, its safe. just make sure the connections are good and tight, and water proof. 'cuz a 02 sensor that doesn't work really sux

 

When I lengthened mine I soldered the joints first and then taped them really well. One concern is taht there are 4 wires. 2 regular and two inside one jacket with braided shielding.

 

I would recommend using shrink tubing rather than tape. its more weather and water resistant.

 

How are the braided wires soldered? Is a braided wire to be used?

 

Yea Joey you are right but I was too lazy to run to radio shack and I did a very good tape job (trust me). wink.gif


Green Shark the braided wires are not soldered, the wire is costructed like this: The outer jacket, inner braided shielding, then there are 2 wires of regular constrution inside that external jacket. It's like taking two ordinary wires and putting them in a braided jacket with insulation on the out side.
I hope I'm not making this more complicated than it really is (by poor explanation).
Any way the braid is not terminated to any thing, it's just under some tape just before the connector.

 

Maybe I wasn't clear. Should I use braided wires with the sensors braided wires in order to increase the length?

 

Oh, my bad. Yes you probably should use braided wire for the extension. Or maybe some other type of shielding if you can't get the same type Hyundai used.

 

Thanks for your help. Maybe I'll also try to find a plug that is compatible with the sensor's plug.
