had my belt changed by a personal mechanic. get 'er done by someone close. hyundai mechanics aren't that good at all. all they do is take more money for the same job.

Yes I changed timing belt not at the dealer.

It's not that hard to change timing belt, there are no special tools needed.

I had mine done at the dealer, but only because I was having a warranty water pump replacement. Otherwise, the dealer costs entirely too much money.

I had mine done at 55k along with all my drive belts. I had a trusted family mechanic do it. I don't know how good the dealers are, but it's my understanding that dealers are usually the most expensive.

I changed mine myself. Took a lot of time, but there really isnt that much that you can screw up - unless you are off by a cog or something, but any shop should be able to figure that out.

Me and my dad changed mine, nothing wrong with it so far.

But to give you an idea of some dealer mechanics. My mom brought in her honda pilot for a AC leak which me and my dad foudn in about 20 minutes called up honda and they said it was covered under warrenty. We brought it down there and they guy coulding find the leak and was going to charge us $195 for freon, so my dad told them where it was and he was surprised to see that the leak was there. Moral of the story is some mechanics don't care evnough and just want to get the job done as fast as possible
