Got A Cat-back!
Just thought you'd all like to know how stupid I am...
I'd always thought my exhaust sytem was stock as I had the stock muffler replaced with a "sports muffler" shortly after purchasing the car.
For a while I've been wanting to sort it out & recently found the time to finally do it.
Well, the other day I looked a right tool when I took the car to a well-respected exhaust shop here in Sydney, only for them to hoist the car up & tell me the exhaust was already a custom jobbie: 2.25in "CatCo" hi-flow cat, "Lukey" front muffler, 24in glasspack resonator & 2.25in mandrel-bent piping from the cat all the way to my rear muffler. To top it all off, he reckoned the only thing letting the system down was the only thing I thought I wanted to keep... the rear cannon that I'd had fitted (which BTW that shop had fitted with a 2.25in press-bent axle-back section!).
Obviously the previous owner had kept whatever muffler he'd bought & had the stock one refitted before the trade-in.
Ended-up just getting the axle-back section re-done... Cost me like 50 bux! Result!!
I can now proudly say that I have a mandrel-bent Cat-back exhaust! laugh.gif

Probably does quiet down considerably. Considering that and the glasspack, it wouldn't be that much louder than stock. I was originally going to keep the stock muffler as well, its really not that bad of a design restriction wise.
Well, it sounded alright with the stock muffler but definitely not "sporty" at all.
I should've known though because I had already measured the piping to be 2.25in & I'd read somewhere on these forums that stock piping was under 2in... I guess I just thought our spec was different over here.
The other thing was that it's mild steel, not stainless, so it's got that kinda rusty look to it.
I'm glad though as it's money that can be spent on something else... Like a header or a chip maybe?

dont forget to mention all the effects of running too rich, (these may be obvious to most of us but hey), loss of power and loss of gas mileage, your not burning all the gas that enters your chamber. Its always better to be a little too rich than a little too lean because detonation is evil. hehe.
LOL yeah, that would have sucked.
Congrats on the good fortune OZ, Now I wanna hear some sound clips. wink1.gif
