gas mileage?

Re: Turboed? how much milage?
for some reason i feel like i've been getting bad gas mileage in my 2001 tiburon. i filled up the tank (which i believe is 12 gallons) and ran the gas almost completely out and i got about 280 miles on that one tank. that's about 23 mpg, but i'm not sure if that's a lot for my little 4 banger. do any of yall know what kind of gas mileage you get or what these cars are supposed to get?

gas mileage?
#1 we've got 14 gallon tanks
#2 it hits e with about 4 gallons left (my experience) and you gas light with about 2 gallons left
#3 the only way to test it to write you mileage (or set your trip) and fill up. when you refill then write down how much gas you put in and your current mileage. then devide the number of miles traveled by the gallons of gas and you've got your gas mileage.
btw, from your story I'm better you were getting closer to 28 mpg
edit: aw crap think I fried my brain, never ever do division at 2:30 am... goodnight laugh.gif

ok, so if it was a 14 gallon tank and i only got about 280 miles on that tank, wouldn't that mean i have worse gas mileage than if it were a 12 gallon tank? i'd be getting about 20 mpg instead of the 23 mpg i thought.

ok here is some math 101 i think you missed out on. next time you fill up completely reset your trip... then when you fill up completely again make a note of how much gas it took to refill, and then divide it by the number on the trip.
If you ran your 14gal tank out you'd be calling AAA

Re: Cheap way around an FMU or RRFPR
yes.. you cannot say.. I only get 280 to a tank therefore I get 20mpg... you have to figure out EXACTLY how much gas you used.. to do that, you have to fill the tank, reset the trip, drive it until you need more. Refill the tank and take the number of miles on your trip and divide that by the number of gallons you put in the car.
FYI, I always get 30mpg or more

Re: fs tons of stuff need to get rid of help
could be your driving habits/ style, maintenence, elevation, auto vs manual, year of car, mileage, quite a few factors have an affect on this.... i just got about 140 miles from 5 gallons ....

driving habits play a lot into it. I do not speed a lot.. when on the highway or cruising along on the back roads, I generally keep no more than five over the limit. sometimes a little more. On the highway, I noticed that as soon as you hit 75mph.. the fuel economy nosedives.. so I usually keep it at around 71 or 72
