Extending O2 sensor
I have several questions to ask this knowledgeable message board:
1) What wires do I need to extend my O2 sensor?
2) What length, usually, do I need?
3) Do I just connect them by electric tape?
What kind of problems may arise from doing the above?
Will this turn off the "Check engine light"?

there are 4 wires to extend on each O2 sensor.You should soder the wires then use electrical tape to cover the sodered connection. Any other method will increase the risk of a CEL(twisting, crimping, etc). You need to have a perfect connection. You can use pretty mutch any wire, but you should go with a guage close to the original and preferably heat shielded.
If its done correctly, you shouldn't have a problem and you CEL should go away.

Hey guys, sorry to bother you again, but I did what was suggested. I soldered it and wrapped it with Electrical tape. One O2 sensor is upstream, right on the header (4-1) and then the other one after my high flow cat.
I still have a CEL, what the heck is the problem now?

The o2 sensor that is "right on the headder"...is it in/on one of the 4 individual pipes, or is it AFTER the 4 pipes join into one main pipe? It needs to be after the 4-1 junction.
Hi Random, the O2 sensor is after the 4 pipes, so it's on the part where they all combine.
I noticed that when I actually soldered the wires that there were two white wires, so does it matter which white wire connects to the other white wire? I'm not so sure if that makes sense, basically I'm not too condifent on the wiring connections.
You think that might be the problem. I sort of thought that since there were two white wires, it didn't matter which white connects to the other white wire(??) Another one is that maybe the downstream O2 sensor is busted. I need help!!

I was lookin through HMAservice and noticed that in the earlier Tiburons (those before 2k1) the diagrams show the o2 sensors futhur down the exhaust....pretty much before and after where the resonator is on the 2k1 Tibs. Looks like the same part just with longer wires...if so...it should be possible to use these sensors instead (if you don't feel like extending the wires).
Anyone know if this is possible...I am in the same boat as far as extending the wires and would rather shell out the cash and buy the other part.

It's hard to mess up an O2 sensor.
Make sure the wires are exactly the same length.
Yes, it does matter which wire connects to which.
Make sure you have one before and one after your cat.
Disconnect your battery after doing all this to reset the CEL and see if it comes back on.

Hey guys! believe it or not the CEL on my dash board finally turned off. I guess extending the wires and soldering it indeed worked smile.gif Thanks guys.
I used the same O2 sensor, bought $1 worth of wires from a "Canadian Tire" store (sort of like a Best Buy plus a Home Hardware Store in the U.S.). The store sells wires that were almost the same gauge as the O2 sensor wires and they were also a harness of 4 wires. So it was perfect. I think they are 18 gauge.
Anyway I just ran my car on the highway and voila! it turned off. So basically you don't have to buy a new O2 sensor, just solder it together and then wrap it with electrical tape. Make sure you attach the same wires together!
