exhaust rattle
well to start i've yet again changed my exhaust setup-...again.
i now have a bit of a 2.5 to a 2.25" system, a magnaflow hi-flow cat and a flowmaster 60 series muffler. i welded it together @ work on borrowed time.
i'll start by saying i've tested my exhaust w/ my stethoscope and i am for sure that the cat is making the noise (and the evolution of my exhaust proves this aswell).
fed up w/ the rattle i removed the heatshield off of the cat-... that didn't cure my issue. it's definately an internal cat issue.
i called both jegs and magnaflow and jegs said they'd look at it and if all is well they'd warranty it. they'll provide me w/ a shipping label to send it in but it must have clean cuts @ both ends (no prob).
my issues are:
1.) i don't want to remove it, then straight pipe it, then new converter again
2.) i don't want the same thing to happen to the new converter
3.) i don't really have time to redo all this @ work
4.) w/ all the emissions laws cinching down i'd rather not gut/straight pipe it. but not totally against it (no emissions tests in fl).

What about getting a couple sets of flanges from a junk yard or purchase them new so you can make a straight pipe section that you can bolt in place of the bad cat while you are waiting for the replacement. Once your replacement cat comes back, all you would have to do is weld on the same type of flanges that are currently on the straight pipe section leaving you with an interchangeable cat/straight pipe section that can be bolted and un-bolted easily in the future.
^ehhh sounds like a fair bit of work (and a wee bit of cash) on even more borrowed time. not a bad idea if my situation were more permiting i would do so.
but instead,
i have one hour after work in order to get everything jacked up, unbolted, cut, and situated-... i have no car lift and my mig-steel barely reaches my car when i pull it inot the shop.
the more i think about it i'm becoming more biased to one of these options. i'm sure it's hard to guess which one.
