Azzy's right. Unless you purchased in Virgina (the only other state that has Cali Emissions Package) you've only got one cat, and thus, no, you cannot remove it and still pass emissions.

However, what many people do is keep their drivers license and car titled from their home state. (have any relatives there?), that way your car is not subjected to CARB and all their restrictions.

hey random,
i bought my car in philly and im pretty sure i have 2 cats as well.

one right at the intake manifold and one on the midpipe. then after the 2nd cat i have a resonator. is this corect? do i have two cats and one resonator, or one cat and two resonators?

thanks bro,
Börg

if i do have two cats (which im pretty sure I do) which one should i remove and still be able to pass emissions in PA? thanks again.

The problem is....it's not legal to convert a Cali-spec emissions car to a 49 state car.

of course...people install headers, high flow cats, and full exhausts...but of course people people do it...that doesn't make it legal.

Random, there is Northeast emmisions too. Its the same as the cali spec, minus the CARB nazi's (with the exception of NJ state inspection from what I hear). Pretty much everyone from Virginia north gets it.

ONLY1DB:

IF you vehicle has the Cali emissions package, it is agaist the law to remove the second cat.

How strict is the PA emissions test that you have to pass? Do they check for 2 cats or just one? Check your local laws and inquire at a local testing station to find out.
