I have a 2001 tiburon, new coil packs, plugs and wires and fuel filter and have all mainenance
done and get oil change every 2,000 miles or so. I also have a new fuel sending unit in there.
My performance mods are aem intake, catback exhaust with race cat, that elimated one converter,
but i still have the stock manifold. i also got a cel in aug and had a leak in the flexpipe but got it
fixed and while not as strong as a smell, when i start my car and accelerate, it smells gassy like a lawn-
mower. is it normal since i got mods like an aem intake and have elimated one cat?? help me out please,
i dont even know where to start or shouldn't i even be concerned i got no cel at present or no pending
trouble codes, as i checked last week with a scan tool. sorry for the long post

spark plugs not sealing properly
loose hose from valve cover
valve cover spark plug seals not sealing
valve cover seal not sealing

check for oil in your spark plugs or around the head. Try plugging the valve cover holes with a plastic cap from the help aisle at autozone.

it sounds like you've got crankcase gasses escaping instead of going out the exhaust or back into the intake manifold/intake system.

^good point, that could actually be it since i did all that myself, and first time 02.gif HAHA.

is there a loss of power of some sort? or does it need to be completely sealed. it would sort of explain why i can't pass a prius.

you can get some "ultra black" high temp RTV which is oil resistant at autozone or advanced for $10. It's actually dark grey in color oddly.
Full spark plug seals $40. Do not buy the cheap valve cover gasket. it is not made properly. Spend the money and get the proper one on order, the cheap one is just a gasket without a lip. It needs a lip to seal properly.
Use RTV on the spark plug seals, repace them, and use the RTV on both sides of the gasket and smoosh it in to the valve cover, then seal the sucker up using a cross-torq pattern.

Just a note, the cheap one at advanced did not seal for me even with RTV and I cracked my valve cover trying.

Have you checked your exhaust manifold for cracks?

What grade of gas are you using? If its 89 then quit wasting your money.

How miles are on the orginal cat?
