What if you changed your oil and heard the ticking noise but it never went away. I think I have same problem but it only happens sometimes, and randomly it won't tick at all. But the ticks increase with rpm's just like Makij explained. Could it be HLA's and can they be replaced easily?

SOmetimes its not always your HLA's making noise. Your injectors make a nice ticking noise too. A good engine flush can go along way too. Especially if your going from reg oil to synthetic.

My car makes that noise when I am low on oil.

It could also need a valve adjustment

You missed the point here on HLAs... they are so you do NOT have to adjust your valves...

if the noise has not gone away by now.. I am afraid you might need new lifters.. they are not too hard to replace.. but you do need to pull the cams... good time to install the 1.8 intake cam if that was on your agenda at all.

k, thanks...that's what I thought. Same thing happened on a T-bird I used to drive and I replaced lifters on that (so I have some knowledge...kind of).

I didn't have that on my agenda, don't know much about the mod. I drive a 1.8L tib so don't I have a 1.8L cam....

I know this is slightly off-topic, but I don't recommend changing your brand of oil unless you've got a good reason. However, I doubt that caused the ticking. Sounds like a valve/lifter problem.

When flushing the engine, use non kerosene based additives. Those eat up the valve seals etc.
