Car overheated today. Pulled off and resevior was not bubbling or spewing out. Called dealership today and talked with service manager for over 20 minutes about the problem. They looked up my records and the water pump was not replaced at my 60k mile maintenance; belts were replaced and coolant was flushed (this was 30k miles prior to this problem). They're going to look at it Monday, replace water pump if necessary UNDER WARRANTY. They're also going to change oil and replace ATF and look for water in both to check for further problems.

Coolant flush, radiator cap replaced, t-stat replaced... car still overheats.

COOLANT LEVEL HAS NOT DECREASED OR INCREASE AT ALL SINCE RIGHT AFTER IT WAS FLUSHED... problem still happening.
Of course... it was between 95-100º today with Heat Indicies between 103-108º with 80-90% humidity. If it were going to overheat, today would be the day

I will report back the findings of the dealership.

no Mad... my A/C won't cool when it's overheating and the engine bay is FREAKING HOT!!

I will ask to keep old water pump if it's replaced. That's the first thing they will check.

My curiosity has me wondering if it's a problem with the belts. They squeel on cold nights when the car is cold, or when there's moisture in the air, but only for ~5 seconds after start up. SOMETIMES when turning the wheel sharply it will do it slightly. Belt started squeeling immediately after 60k mile maintenance. I took it back to dealer, they looked at it briefly in parking lot and said they were tight enough, so I figured they were.

IT ONLY happens when I'm stopped in traffic, or driving on the streets and stopping at traffic lights. If I'm on the interstate it NEVER overheats... I took a road trip (300 miles each way) without it overheating on the interstate, but as soon as I pulled off and came to a red light on the offramp, it overheated. I'm guessing that the belts aren't powering the water pump while it's idling, but when I'm driving at regular speeds it has enough tension in the belt to power the pump. Belts seem to be moving fine, but I'm not sure what amount of slack if any should be in them.

thoughts? ideas?

DEALERSHIP SAYS......

Radiator is clogged in some way, fluid isn't passing through it like it should. Tried flushing but still clogged. Radiator is also leaking (I've never lost any fluid in resevior until yesterday when it started overheating, and almost completely drained resevior... must be a new problem.

They're replacing radiator... about $400 or so. Only covered under 5yr 60kmile warranty (I'm about 39,000 miles over). I told them to make sure that's the problem and that nothing else is contributing. I'm also having them replace ATF and change oil, and told them to look for water or any other possible problems that there may be. Total Cost - $550.

mad.gif I still think there's another problem; I'm going to talk with Service Manager on Wednesday when I pick it up and make sure that the problem will be covered under warranty if it still overheats within the next 2,000 miles. I have 98,900 miles on the car right now and don't want this to be a temporary fix til my warranty is up drillsergeant.gif

Once a mechanics put a different radiator cap, not the OEM one... this cap block the way to the reservoir tank.....

maybe this is happening..... if not, is a doubt less....

nono2.gif Can anyone guess what happened??? My car has overheated the last 2 days eyecraze.gif I've put 300 miles on it since the new radiator... not leaking fluid, not losing fluid, fluid isn't bubbling. When car overheats, A/C stops working (gets warm) and engine bay gets really hot. Hasn't overheated as bad or as easily as it was, but it still happened. mad.gif

Sorry REDZ!! I didn't see your post til I had already paid for a new radiator! I just wanted the problem fixed and ASAP. I'm going to B and complain to the dealership. I'm betting the it's the water pump still. If it is, I'm going to say that the faulty water pump (still under warranty) was the cause of the engine overheating, fluid getting hot and warping the inside of the radiator, causing it to mess up and leak, requiring it to be replaced. Connecting it all back to the water pump and having THEM pay for the radiator (since it was probably caused by a bad water pump). Think I'll have a shot?
