What "hole"?

Copy the pic and circle what you are talking about.

I think he means the punch hole on the head above the top radiator hose. I have always wondered what it would be used for as well.

Isn't that a freeze plug?

the big 3/4" depression is a build casting mark i believe. serves no purpose to anything for the owner.

^ To make you ask questions probably. nana.gif

I went out and took a look at mine and can't really come up with a good explanation either.

It's just like that big bubble sticking out of the end of the head/valve cover. There's nothing under there so they're no reason to have it there. If you start getting into the engine bay, you'll find all sorts of undrilled screw bosses, mounts, etc. They are either for a option that the US doesn't have or part of an older motor design that they didn't feel like changing the mold for.

That's my 2 cents anyway.

The thing which viewed from the front of the car, is on the front left side of the engine below the valve cover? I was told it was for machines to manipulate the engine when they were casting the head. All I know is that i try to keep it shiney. It shines to a great finish if you hit it with a piece of steel wool and some silicone. smile.gif

I was told thats where the fuel pump went before EFI was made. The mold for the engine has not been change and they don't knock the hole out now(it would of been for the fuel pump arm).If you notice there is two bolt holes, one on each side of this area.Larrs
