Engine Balancing

ok ive been told by 3 local machine shops that engine balancing isnt really needed on a 4 cylinder...
for some reason i think ill end up having to send the damn motor out or somethin....
to those that have built motors how many have had there engines out of balance?

nah im gonna keep the same rev...
so basically i should just install the rods to the piston and weigh em?

Actually you have to weigh most of all the rods, weigh them balance them (the machine shop shoud know about this; I only know of one technique, don't know if it's the best or not); same with pistons. It's very unlikely your crankshaft needs balancing too... but as said, if you plan to rev above 9k your crankshaft would need to be balanced too.
Have you tried asking if they can send you already balanced rods from Korea? Maybe their shops are less expensive, plus they know about Beta con rods.

any shop worth a damn should have th rods close to perfect
what u do is put together the rod/piston/rings combo and weigh it... then what u do is take the lowest one, and make all the other weigh the same by takign off material on the con rod (there will be an obvious spot to do this on the rod, usually looks like a block on the bottom of the rod cap, or on the rod neck itself)
