Let me star off saying that I'm not entirely engine/ tranny savvy, so here goes:

My 01 tib is having engine and tranny issues and I was wondering if i could use the eng & trans from a 98 elantra and exactly what kinds can be swapped out and everything.

any relevant input is greatly appreciated.

what "engine and tranny" problems are you having? Are they both having problems?

The 98 elantra has a Beta 1 I'm pretty sure, so it would work.

Although the tranny may be a bit different gearing wise, but if it's the same engine the tranny should bolt right up.

As long as your use your Tib engine mounts, all else is the same. The only thing I can think of is that the engine may be a Rev A, which wont play any role in installing unless its an automatic tranny, in which case you may have problems with your current TCM (tranny computer) mating with the old auto. I know when I had the reversed roles in my situation, my 97 auto tib got a tranny from 99+ and starting to screw up pretty bad about a year after I payed 3400 for it with no warranty. Hyundai said its because the shop didn't update the TCM along with the newer tranny, thus, I began my rebellion and swapped to 5 speed smile.gif

I'm not sure if the reverse will be true, but hopefully you're just dropping in a older Beta1 engine and 5 speed, and you'll be fine, plus you'll have a bit better gearing for speeding around town wink1.gif
