Default Elantra 2.0 How to advance timing on crankshaft plate???

Im going all motor 2.0 elantra . Im wondering whether is possible to advance timing by making new holes on the crankshaft plate, Iv'e heard from a friend that it has been done before. If anybody has attempted this or succeded your help would be appreciated...

Surely it would be cheaper and involve less hassle to run an adjustable ECU. If you add timing mechanically, the knock sensor will simply retard the timing electronically.





That said, I don't fully understand what is going on in your picture. Can you elaborate a bit more?

@Wheel of steel

That's what I figured that the knock sensor would retard the timing, but then again Im still confused because ive seen it done. This guy in Puerto Rico has a 2.0 elantra with higher compression pistons plus same mods as my engine and he drilled those 4 new holes on the crank plate shown on pic and his motor,He has higher torque numbers on dyno. What am I missing ?

They were possibly drilled there to balance the crankshaft, which isn't a modification to increase engine output.

timing is done by the tone wheel on the side of the crank, not the dots



im with wheels, looks like it was done for balancing
