Downshifting Into First On Rd2
Rev match, then put in first, your fightning the synchros, I dunno why ur having problems, I do it all the time, just down shift normally, give throttle, put in first... and 1st is not useless.... 1st is one the reasons our cars owns , were more of a upper powerband car, just look at the dyno sheets =P
If you want to down shift at 1st gear - revmatch (give a little gas) then shift or double clutch.
Manual trannies have tranny oil. Gears are washing in oil.

^^ No, it's actually a safety feature. Downshifting into 1st is tricky in our cars. It is meant to be because 1st gear is not for driving. You could mess up your car with a high rpm shift to 1st instead of 3rd. It should kinda give you some resistance and then slowly let you engage it.
Kinda like... "are you sure you want to do this?"

Manuals have trans fluid, called gear oil, but not all use gear oil even! I know plenty of manual transaxels that use ATF as there lubricant. And every tiburon/elantra ive ever seen has had black clutch fluid. Mine will turn black within like a day or 2, same with xxxmonixidechilds, my buddys 99 tib...
Go pull that big 19mm (maybe 21mm) bolt out from the lower-side of the trans (driverside), right under the axle, and tell me if anything comes out. fing02.gif

No way, first is way to short, esspecially when boosted, you have to not give it too much gas until you have all your traction, and then as soon as you can fully release your clutch and give it WOT you get about .2 seconds of gear and its time to shift, i can only make like a pound of boost in first.
If it was any shorter, i wouldnt even use first.

Nah, I'm not that old lol, I've just driven quite a few older cars and a fair few are set up that way. The idea of setting up trannies that way is almost as old as synchros. Probably saves them a lot of money on warranty work from idiot drivers.
Agreed, first is pretty much useless and I don't know why they made it that way. If first could squeeze out another 10mph or so it would be ok.

MANY cars have that, like 35% of manual cars out there use ATF fluid. hence why u never assume. hell, dont even allways just install what came out, cause very often people dont know any better, and put gear oil in a car that calls for ATF. allways double check. but the hyundai does use Gear oil, so no worries on that.
Rev match and get first, very handy if you aren't boosted cos low revs are low power on NA cars. It's not essential but if you are playing out.....( I guess if you're boosted then all revs are low power on an NA car smile.gif )
I never saw a transmission without lube sloshing around, sure it's gear oil but it's not clutch fluid! Clutch fluid is not for lubricating anything it doesnt compress so it's ideal for hydraulic systems, so is oil of any kind but oil eats away the seals, clutch fluid doesn't.
As for not getting first being a feature, I'd call it a pain in the @ss. When you can only get first by rev matching cuz the synchro has gone completely, the box gets rebuilt with a new synchro fitted and hey presto, easy gear selection. The high ratio beats up the synchro, if 5th gear synchro went you would hardly notice the difference and selecting 5th would be fairly drama free. If you drove the Alfa twin cams carefully the synchro would last much longer, getting sporty with em caused them to fail pretty quick.
The best method of avoiding selecting first from fifth is to remember that you are in control... smile.gif ....sorry guys, it's Saturday evening, I'm allowed one smart @ss comment per week.

I'm so old that the first manual car I drove had horse shoes fitted to the tires to make it sound as sporty as the previous model. smile.gif
