ok..well today i set out to put my decompression plate in.....i had a 1.8l with 70k on it originally..i bought a 2.0l engine about 4 years ago that has just sat inside my garage from a junkyard with supposely 13k...then 1.8l's head was making like clicking noises coming from the head that is why i bought the 2.0 cause i had planned on swapping them..then i garaged the car for 3 years....so i lift the head of the 2.0 only to find out that the clyinder walls on cylinder 1 & 4 are rusted/rough..turning the engine by hand it doesnt turn as smooth as it should....so i took the head of the 1.8l and the cylinder walls and pistons look in much better shape then the 2.0.......ill post pics later tonight..my question is..should i have something done about the 2.0 at a machine shop or just use my 1.8 block with my 2.0 head.....and if im doing the 1.8 block/2.0 head..can i use a 2.0 ecu or the 1.8 since i have both.i feel like the rust could of been from the engine just sitting in my garage all these years

ok so i got to honing it today...cylinder 4 looks/feels great...1 and 3 are still a lil rough....you can still see the marks from the rust a lil..but it does feel much more smooth.....so i put everything back on..and its still a lil diffcult to turn the engine......but im assuming this will be for now..and once i get the car running everything willl eventually smoothen out?

why are the two cyls. a lil rough still?

did you take out the pistons to hone the ENTIRE cylinder? or just from their low point up?

According to Mitchell Ondemand, all specifications for the 1.8 and 2.0 are the exact same, except:
1.8 cam has higher lift, longer duration.
2.0 engine has (IIRC) 8.5mm longer stroke.

Just use the best parts from both, or use the good block and good head with high compression pistons from KSpec.com. (or low compression if you want to go with boost)

http://kspec.com/list.php?ac_id=85&ai_id=1480

Apparently they're stock 1.8 pistons that you use the 2.0 connecting rods with an XD head gasket to get 11.0 - 1 compression?!
