My thoughts on real pipe were this... I can get mandrel bent pipe free from a local shop for my own use. The reason I didn't was because of the heat. You would have to wrap it to keep it cool. That was the reason that I bought black ABS pipe instead of PVC, so I didn't have to do anything else.
As for the Toyota Spyder I think you could have taken him. There was a test on road week and they are slow and not that powerful HP wise.
As for cleaning the filter, go to a local performance parts shop and buy the K&N recharging kit. It has cleaner and oil and best of all.... directions so you know how to do it right the first time.

GOD NO!!!!
Your local Auto Parts store should have a K&N "filtercharger" kit for about $10. It contains a "cleaner" to remove the gummy stuff and have it rinse clean, plus more "gummy stuff" to spray the filter down with. You should only need to do this every 10,000 miles, or 5000 if you drive on dirt roads, or if your filter is more exposed. The dirtier a gauze filter gets...the more dirt it blocks....
Go out to the K&N website and read up. you are getting bad, bad information.

The MR2-S would have stomped you hard if it was even lightly modified, it might have been a close race if it was stock and you having your mods.
The MR2-S has a 138 HP motor, damn close to our tibbys, but it weights 500 lbs less. Plus it is rear engine/Rear wheel drive. He would get a better launch...a faster launch...and accelerate faster..etc..etc...etc...
stock vs stock anyway.
