custom catback question!
yeah sorry for so many stoopid ?'s but i REALLY want to know more about performance!!!.....a friend of mine suggested instead of paying ALOT to get a cat-back exhaust system just go to a local welding shop and have them make me a 2 1/4 in piping instead, is that basiclly the same thing??....and i asked him what about the cat-converter and he said just to have them cut that off as well you dont really need it??....i though i ask in here before i make any moves!!! thanx!

That is a good choice if you don't want to pay a lot of money for CatBack. However since custom exhaust is not dyno proven, there is no way to really tell difference between custom and brand CatBack. On the other, if you put brand CatBack (SpeedState or KORE), you are guaranteed to gain that much HP and Torque mentioned before (I think it was around 10-12HP gain).
By the way, you need Cat Converter since removing it is 100% against law. You won't gain much HP by removing Cat Coverter. Just get high flow Cat and you will be fine. Remove stock resonator while putting custom pipe.

ALSO IF YOU GO TO A MUFFLER SHOP MOST OF THEM WON'T TAKE OUT YOUR CAT UNLESS YOU KNOW SOMEONE THAT WORKS THERE.WHAT YOU CAN DO IS HOLLOW OUT THE CAT AND RUN THE EXHAUST BACK FROM THERE. ALSO IF YOU HAVE THE CALIFORNIA CAT YOU CAN TAKE THAT OUT DEPENDING ON WHICH STATE YOU LIVE IN.
If you get a custom mandrel bend exhaust the HP figures are pretty much the same.In most cases your just paying for the name. When i Dynoyed my car i gained 15HP At the wheels, which included Headers, high flow cat, custom 2.25 inch piping and Magnaflow muffler.
