Default Custom AI Complete!

I previously posted about trying to put together a custom intake similar to the RS-CAI but didnt feel like waiting to order flex tubing from JC so I decided to use PVC piping instead(I know it gets hot, so im heatwraping soon)..Anyway, I purchased a 2 1/2" PVC 90 degree elbow piece and modified it to the stock intake peice in such a fashion that the filter is just underneath the engine bay but still is receiving alot of air without being terribly low...its kind of beta right now, but it frickin screams like no other all the way from 2500RPM and absolutely WHALES at 6000RPM+, I noticed extremely substantial gains in pickup both off the line as well as in the higher ranges...The only thing im not sure of is what this intake could be classified as,,,Im thinking Ram Air, but you decide. All of my parts costed a whopping 40 dollars wink , and A few more peices were used as well. If your looking for a very cheap intake that works and fits extremely well into the engine bay then send me over a PM and I can hook you up with simple directions and measurements ..This thing looks decent, but works NICELY. Its actually LOUDER and cleaner sounding than my buddies Tibby equipped with the infamous AEM, but hey you decide..

Hehe, I remember these days I've been here myself man WAY back in the day, no worries about the PVC melting because your engine bay doesn't get quite THAT hot.

It sounds wierd, doesn't it? Kinda plasticy and tinny -- but still cool. PVC has some wierd reverberation to it that gives your intake an odd small-hollow plasticy sound.

If you want something that takes a bit more of your time and skills, play with some 4" black ABS plastic from your local Home Depot. Cut off about a 2 1/2 foot chunk of it, then cut a narrow V down one side and melt it together so it makes a really big long cone that's 4" at one end and fairly close to 2.5" at the other end.

Stick a filter on the 2.5" end, get a rubber plumbing 4"-to-2" reducer thingy from Home Depot and stick that end against your MAF.

It's dead quiet at idle and during normal driving, but throttle response is much better and WOT sounds mean as hell.

Took me a few tries to do this at home, and I really liked the result until it somehow fell off while my little brother was borrowing my car one day. Not that I can blame him 100%, becuase I never built a solid mount for it... But it still bugged me frown

Haha that sounds awesome dude....I was running JUST a cone filter attached to the black intake pipe before with the IAT taped to the filter lol, so this is a bit of an upgrade. I think ive even noticed better gas milage with this setup too, and it gives tons of advantages for like almost zero cash... smile.gif

A little off topic, but i believe that u may have the dirtiest engine bay ive ever seen.

Also, ive been thinking about doing something like this until the SR CAI comes out, just to get rid of the damn stock intake. I may try what red suggested, but ill prolly just mess it up, & stay with the stock sh!t
