Cold Air Box Questions
Is this box used for packing ice for the strip or is it just an air chamber? Is the filter inside or a cone outside? How about insulation for heat?If I was to make my own does anyone know how the inside is designed? There must be a filter media to prevent ice chips from going into the intake. Also is the ice on the bottom or what? If anyone has details for this setup I am very interested. With my battery relocated I have about 16"x14"x10" of room to play with. If I can come up with a good plan I will make one for myself.

It fits where the stock air box sits.
The 2 openings in front are equipped with "dryer hose" to lead to cold air. There is a large hole in the back that the MAF fits into, you are supposed to put a Cone Filter on the MAF.
The box is thin wall aluminum. It gets VERY hot.
I would reccomend a REAL CAI over this box, even if you packed it with ice.

Well I have been unable to find anything on the net about any cars using this setup. Needless to say I have nothing to prove if it would work good or not. If I was to see actual usage with a proven gain on any type of car I would consider it. As of right now that does not exist so I will stick with the traditional CAI setup we all know. Besides I would rather have an turbo with intercooler on the front and spray nozzles cooling it with water under full throttle someday

Although I'm not an expert, I supose a CAI get it's gains by getting the air cold, and then make it pass quickly over the intake pipes. It's absolutely unavoidable that things get hot under the hood, so, the cooler you take your admission air, and the faster you get it IN the TB, the better. to take cool air into a box, and then get it in the TB is just to prolong the process and in the mean time, the air gets "less cold".
